History

1855 Shinbei Matsuoka started making furniture.
1961.5 Matsuoka Woodworking was founded and production of high quality, handcrafted furniture began.
1973.11 As the Showa Emperor was paying a royal visit to Iwate Prefecture's tree planting ceremony, our paulownia dressers were viewed by the Emperor at the Iwate Prefectural Memorial Hall and were granted permanent preservation within the building.
1974.7 Our large natural drying facility (approx. 355,800 sq. ft. of material storage space) was established in Hirotani-cho, Fuchu City.
1974.10 A Kyoto Factory was established in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto for high quality lacquer work (associated company Kyorin Kougei Co., Ltd.).
1977.10 Matsuso Co., Ltd. was founded (with an independent sales department).
1981 Contract Departments established for Kyo-style joinery, legged furniture, and shelved furniture.
1984.10 Matsuoka Woodworking Co., Ltd. was established (the Production Department was reformed into a corporate organization).
1989.4 Through the merger of Matsuso Co., Ltd. (Sales Department) and Matsuoka Woodworking Co., Ltd. (Production Department), a new Matsuso Co., Ltd. was formed.
1993.10 A second factory was constructed within the Shiroyama material storage area in Hirotani-cho, Fuchu City.
1993.12 A factory was constructed at our headquarters as a Contract Department.
1994.11 At the request of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, we started a large scale project (human sense, measurement, applied technology) to produce deep sleep beds.
1995.2 At the request of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, we started a large scale project to produce tables and chairs based on the above principle.
1995.5 As the current Emperor and Empress were paying a royal visit to a national tree planting ceremony in Hiroshima Prefecture, our paulownia dressers were viewed by their Highnesses at the Prefectural Eastern Technology Center.
1996.1 Matsuso's paulownia dressers were featured nationally on a live broadcast of "NHK's Hirudoki Nippon Retto".
2003.5 Matsuso's paulownia dressers were once again featured nationally on a live broadcast of "NHK's Hirudoki Nippon Retto".
2004.4 We were featured in “Furusato no Takumi” (Artisans From Back Home) on "NHK's Okonomi Wide".
2006.1 First Japanese brand to exhibit at the “Las Vegas World Market Center Furniture Show”.
2007.10 Expanded our headquarter factory to improve our Special Woodworking Department.
2009.1 Held a solo exhibition at New York's Felissimo Design Center representing Japanese brands.
2009.3 Featured on a live broadcast of "NHK's Furusato Ichiban!"
